Urology

Urology also is known as genitourinary surgery, refers to the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of the male and female urinary-tract system as well as the male reproductive organs. Organs under the domain of urology include the kidneys, adrenal glands, urinary bladder, ureters, urethra, and the male reproductive organs (testes, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, epididymis, prostate, and penis). It is looked after by a doctor who has a specialisation in this field known as a urologist.

The disorders affecting the male reproductive system are also looked after by a urologist because the reproductive and the urinary system in males are closely connected. If a disease affects the urinary tract, it often ends up affecting the reproductive tract as well, and vice versa. For some reason, the branch of urology is also referred to as genitourinary surgery.

Urology includes the treatment of urinary disorders through both non-surgical and surgical methods. Some of the diseases that are treated with the help of medications and external therapies include prostatic hyperplasia and urinary tract infections. These conditions are treated via antibiotic prophylaxis in patients with compromised immune function. Drugs such as amoxicillin and ciprofloxacin are administered to curb or avoid urinary infection.

On the other hand, urinary surgery is usually carried out for the treatment of kidney stones, prostate cancer and stress incontinence, among other complex and severe disorders. A typical genitourinary and urology surgery can be performed with the help of both approaches-  open surgery and minimally invasive techniques such as laser and laparoscopic surgery.

Urology procedures are sometimes conducted side-by-side with the procedures from other specialities as well because of their close association. For example, gynaecology, gastroenterology, oncology, andrology and endocrinology procedures are sometimes performed along with a urology procedure.

What's the best place for urology treatment?

India is one of the best locations in the world for urology treatment.  The hospitals in India for urology disorders have some of the best surgeons and urologists, who are well-equipped with knowledge of using highly advanced technology in the field. Besides, the best multispecialty hospital for urology surgery has the potential to handle any complications that may arise during the procedure.
The cost of urology treatment is much less as compared to other parts of the world. This alone makes India one of the viable choices for urology treatment.
