Medanta - The Medicity

It all started with a vision:- A vision that first came to Dr. Naresh Trehan, while practising surgery at the NYU Medical Center in the USA. For every 1000 Indian patients he treated there, another 1000 couldn’t even afford to fly down. That’s when he realised that India needed to have an advance multispecialty medical institution of its own. An institution which not only treats, but trains and innovates too, while providing international standards of technology, infrastructure, clinical care, and a fusion of traditional Indian and modern medicine.

That’s how Medanta was born in 2009.

It is one of India’s largest multi-super speciality institutes located in Gurgaon, a bustling town in the National Capital Region. The institution has been envisioned with the aim of bringing to India the highest standards of medical care along with clinical research, education and training. Medanta is governed under the guiding principles of providing medical services to patients with care, compassion, commitment.

Hospital Campus:- One roof. 15 hospitals.

Medanta’s massive 2.1 million sq. ft. the campus provides 1,250+ beds and houses facilities for over 22+ super-specialities, all under one roof. Each floor is dedicated to a specialisation to ensure that they function as independent hospitals within a hospital and yet have the comfort of collaborating on complex cases. Patients are provided with multiple options for treatment, the most suitable of which are arrived at through a cross-function, cross-specialisation committee such as Tumor board that decides the best course of action

How we designed our campus around patients: -It was clear from the outset that integrated medical treatment was key to the vision of the Institute. By physically integrating the entire hospital in one singular built mass, patients with varied medical requirements are offered multiple options for treatment, the most suitable of which are arrived at through a cross-function, cross-specialization committee.

We have all the space for your care: -This architectural model is in contrast to the medical standard precedent set for Medanta. To provide connectivity between doctors and patients, the building was divided horizontally and each institute was given a complete floor..

An environment of comfort & rehabilitation:- It was critical to give patients a sense of physical orientation within the building and visual connection with the outside environment. This was achieved by bringing natural light and viewing windows into every patient space possible. This helps cue the patients time cycles into the natural cycles.

Healing the spirit and soul:-The founders were very clear that we were to invent a new language for hospital rooms and not mimic a hotel or domestic room. This new language was to embrace the spirit of India and combine it with the frontiers of the latest global technology.
